IDF monitoring Korean tension

Following the 105th IDF Dairy Summit in Rotterdam (above) in 2016, the summit in 2017 is being held in Northern Ireland, before moving to South Korea in 2018.

The International Dairy Federation (IDF) has told DairyReporter it is monitoring the situation on the Korean peninsula as the war of words between the US and North Korea intensifies.

At the 2013 IDF World Dairy Summit, held in Yokohama, Japan, the IDF chose Daejeon, South Korea, as the host of the annual event for October 2018. The event will be the 106th IDF annual gathering.

The IDF told DairyReporter the issue of North Korea was discussed by the IDF board some months ago, and will be discussed again later this year taking into account the most recent information.

World Dairy Summit venues:

2009 Berlin, Germany
2010 Auckland, New Zealand
2011 Parma, Italy
2012 Cape Town, South Africa
2013 Yokohama, Japan
2014 Tel Aviv, Israel
2015 Vilnius, Lithuania
2016 Rotterdam, Netherlands
2017 Belfast, Northern Ireland
2018 Daejeon, South Korea

Tensions are currently high in the region as the North Korean regime has said it will reveal a plan to fire four missiles close to the US territory of Guam by mid-August, following US President Donald Trump’s warning to North Korea of a response of ‘fire and fury’ should it threaten the US.

The UN recently imposed tighter sanctions on North Korea.
