Dairy Concepts IRL’s CheeseOs
Dairy snacks maker Dairy Concepts IRL presented its range of CheeseOs, a range of crunchy puffed cheese bites made of Irish cheddar. Each bite is made of cut-up block cheddar, which is cooked in a microwave under vacuum to take away the water from the cheese but retain its protein and calcium content. The result is a non-greasy snack that contains around 10g of protein per 25g bag and around 11g fat. According to the company’s Arnaud Laurent, creating crunchy cheese bites requires manufacturers to adopt the right cooking method to avoid ‘burning’ the cheese, which can result in greasy bites.
CheesOs come in six flavors - cheese and pickled onion, sour cream and onion, cheddar, cheese and onion, salt and vinegar, and sweet chilli. The bites are sold as 25g snack packs in the UK and Ireland and as larger, shareable packs in France. CheesOs are also coming to Germany and will be sold in supermarket chain Rewe.
